Isn't the TV show Waaris inspired by the 2015 Irrfan movie Qissa?

Waaris, that went on air recently on &TV, is loosely based on the National Award winner Irrfan Khan starrer Qissa (2015) where he played a father who makes his daughter believe that she is a son. He raises her as one and eventually, they face the consequences when she grows up to realise that she is a woman.

In the daily, produced by Ashvini Yardi, Govinda’s niece Aarti Singh reprises the role played by Irrfan and disguises her third born from her three daughters as a son. She makes her and the world around her believe that her family has an heir to their property.

The show, like the movie, is even set in Punjab.

An official from the production house insists, “We don’t know much about Irrfan Khan’s Qissa but the similarities pointed out by you make us believe that our show is indeed loosely inspired by Qissa.”

The channel spokesperson didn’t respond to our queries but a source from &TV
confirmed our story.
